As the days race by, they blur and blend into a montage of fuzzy feeling punctuated by a few memorable moments. We don’t always notice the details of the everyday tasks we do every

day, but they are the backdrop of our drama and the thing that makes up the texture of time. When I talk or text to far flung family members, I sometimes want to make up something memorable to tell them. The minutiae of daily life might be marginally satisfying to me but it doesn’t make for compelling dialogue. Yes, I enjoyed visiting the new Tractor Supply store and getting another Christmas bauble, but how much can you say about that without delving into the reasons? That my husband loved that store, and Christmas, and anything with lights and it makes me happy to think of him seeing the new one right up the street? That beats the heck out of being sad he’s not here to go with me anymore. That decorating reminds me of the fun I used to have building sets and producing plays with crazy middle school students and their parents? That takes about 2 seconds to say and doesn’t explain the deep satisfaction I get remembering those students and the drama that took place off stage as much as on. And the smell of a well put together beef stew is only relevant if you care about using the ingredients at hand in such a way that nothing is wasted and everything mingles to feed us deliciously and nutritiously. My life is good, better than I act like sometimes, but I'm not certain how to convey that to people who seem to have so much else going on. Rest assured, November was lovely this year and I am thankful for every little thing that happened in it. Be assured that while it may not be showy or especially news worthy, most of us have rich, complex lives that are more worthwhile than is easily conveyed.
