These beautiful astors from Newark Park in the Cotswolds are called Michaelmas Daisies because they bloom late September and early October, just in time for the Anglican feast day of St. Michael and All Angels. Today commemorates the battle when Michael the Archangel fought Satan and his dragon and threw him out of heaven. With all the dragons of violence and despair lurking in the world today, we need someone to fight for us against the demons trying to overpower our lives. God has graciously provided superior beings to do that for us. Super heroes are nothing new.
Prayer, The Archangel
Saint Michael and All Angels September 29. O everlasting God, who hast ordained and constituted the ministries of angels and men in a wonderful order: Mercifully grant that, as thy holy angels always serve and worship thee in heaven, so by thy appointment they may help and defend us on earth;through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
