Why Write?

When I tell people I spend 4 to 6 hours a day writing, mostly I don't think they believe me. And yeah, okay, that's not every single day but some days it's even more than that. Then people want to know where all the published brilliance is that surely ought to be manifested if I'm expending that much time and energy. And, uh, I don't have all that much to show for it. I have some published plays and articles and I'm looking for agents for my books, but so far there are no big fat checks or mega endorsements. So why do I do it?
Here, in no particular order, are the main reasons I'm compelled to write

1. Because I can’t help myself.
2. It’s a way to explore issues and figure out motivation, my own and everyone else's
3. It’s an excuse to research and travel
4. It gives me something to talk about besides the weather or other people’s foibles and follies
5. It connects me with a larger community
6. It keeps me thinking all the time
7. I feel like it’s a gift God gave me and I ought to be using it
My main reason for writing is because I believe it's my calling from God. To use my words to draw people into His kingdom. I want my writing to have eternal value!
